Ndume is well known and respected throughout the region as the only true agricultural machinery manufacturer in East Africa. Ndume machinery is built to last, easy to use and simple to maintain. The company was established in 1959 with a total staff compliment of 40 men, and a floor area of approximately 5,440 sq. ft. Today’s factory occupies some 5 acres, with 62,000 sq. ft of buildings, consisting of machine shop, fabrication shop, various assembly lines and a range of other engineering activities which include repair, design and testing facilities. When in full production the factory employs approximately 80 workers.

The main focus of Ndume’s business initiative is in the agricultural sector, a market Ndume has been serving for over 60 years. Ndume’s products are all designed and manufactured locally and as a result have been adapted to farmer’s needs and local conditions. The product range suits all levels of farmer, from the small holder subsistence farmer through to the large scale commercial farmer. Machinery produced suit tractors from 30 to 200 Horse Power and competes directly with implements manufactured overseas in both technical and financial terms.

Ndume prides itself in keeping up with technology, our research and development section continuously works hand in hand with farmers to ensure old designs are improved and new machines are developed incorporating new ideas and concepts. Machinery and implements are available for conventional, minimum till and zero till farming practices.

Ndume Ltd offers excellent support to its clients. Within the existing workforce, there are a number of dedicated staff that are available to travel and offer technical support to customers in the field. In addition, as 95% of the implement parts are locally manufactured on site in Gilgil, spare parts are always readily available from its stores.

Gilgil is located 120 kilometers from Nairobi and is very central to the main agricultural growing areas and is therefore easily accessible to the majority of the Kenyan farming community. Most agricultural areas are within one and a half hours drive from Gilgil, thus making it an ideal location for an agricultural manufacturing industry.

Approximately 25% of our machinery is sold to neighbouring Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Southern Sudan, Somalia, Ethiopia, Malawi, Zambia and Ghana.
