Hilary Ferdinand Daffi, is a Tanzanian born professional hunter. He started conducting professional tourist hunting back in 1987 with Tanzania Wildlife Coporation. In 1988 he started hunting with Cotton Gordon of Cotton Gordon Safaris. Hilary Daffi hunted with Cotton Gordon in various hunting blocks in Tanzania to his retirement in 1999. Hilary Daffi Safaris was allocated a hunting concession by Tanzania Wildlife Division in early 2006 called Lake Chaya and thereafter operated several hunting safaris. Furthermore the company is allocated Rungwa west and Muhesi west hunting block in 2007 one of the best areas in the country. In his hunting professionalism Hilary Daffi is also the Master Measurer of Record Book Trophies Worldwide and hunted great trophies for the Tanzania State House. He has further successfully hunted with the renowned American Clients such as Dick & Mary Cabela, Bill Backman, Phil Majerus and many others. Nasera Safaris is named for a 250' high monolith that looms over a rarely-visited part of the Serengeti. Joseph and David have taken people to this region for many years and continue to marvel at the stunning beauty of the area. Having a picnic lunch in the shade of the great rock, under the large acacias, marveling at the fig trees that ooze from rocky folds and creases, is an experience that you won't soon forget. Occasionally there are Maasai herders in the area and there can be all kinds of game on the drives to and from the rock. Both the rock and the fig tree have some fame. In various stories and legends from the past the tree is called "the place where the man was killed" for inconclusive and often contradictory reasons. It is also used as an iconic signpost in the middle of seemingly endless grasslands. The rock has sheltered humans for at least 10,000 years and still might harbor wild dogs, Maasai herders, and even the rare, bone-breaking lamagier. There are two excellent and relevant books that mention the area: My Serengeti Years by Myles Turner and The Tree Where Man Was Born by Peter Matthiessen. Joseph Ndunguru was born and raised in Tanzania. He has worked more than thirty years studying and interpreting the wildlife of the country. Joseph has led safaris for the most important organizations (and for some of the the world's most important people) for more than twenty years. His sense of humor and encyclopedic knowledge make him a wonderful traveling companion. Prior to being a tour leader, Joseph worked for 16 years at Ngorongoro Crater in education and tourism. Born in the southern part of Tanzania (near Mbinga), Joseph was educated in Uganda. When he was a youngster, the East African Union existed and Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda were cooperative members of the Union. Joseph was educated further at the College of African Wildlife Management and then traveled to the US where he attended the University of Michigan's Park Management and Recreation program. David Clapp has spent his adult life working in the environmental field and in eco-tourism. In his thirty-plus trips to Tanzania he has found a second home, a nation full of friends, and enough wildlife to keep his heart racing day in and day out. David will provide books and checklists, photographic and pre-travel advice; as well as working in the field to make your trip memorable. Honey badger was established in 1999 by Mama Lucy Renju, and as of 2010 is being run by her son Joseph and his wife Jenny and their two children Izzy and Eli (seen below in our swimming pool!) Joseph has a background in international development and passionately believes in encouraging sustainable development by supporting communities to help themselves. In light of this in 2006 he set up his own non-profit organisation called SAIDIA Tanzania.Jenny has a background in public health and for the last 8 years has worked on large scale adolescent sexual and reproductive health projects. Like Joseph (her husband) she is driven by encouraging sustainable developments for those that need. Joseph and Jenny took over Honey Badger in February of 2010, both have previous hospitality experience and will continue to offer a genuine taste of African hospitality. Above and beyond this they are determined to merge the focus of the lodge with their passion in community development ensuring that Honey Badger Lodge and Safaris is a positive force within their community.
