Chancel
International was formed in 1987 by Dr. M. Adel Gawish
a Professor of Engineering from Egypt who believed he could assist
the refugees of the world by providing them with a certain
amount of dignity in poverty. He used his talents of engineering
to source aluminium kitchen sets from local facilities.
This, he believed, would not only assist the refugees
by providing equipment to cook and eat with, but would
also provide work for many of the people within his local
community just outside Cairo in Egypt. He became very
successful at manufacturing these kitchen sets which brought
him to the notice of United Nations buying groups. They
placed a sample order with Chancel and finding the quality
to be very good formed a long association with Chancel
International.
Now
14 years on from the start of Chancel International the
organisation continues to supply the UN organisations
with Aluminium Kitchenware amongst many other items. Chancel
International has held the Long Term Agreement with a
leading UN Agency for more than eight years (from the
time Long Term Agreements were first started).
Only
18 months ago, Chancel International opened a new fully
automated factory close to the site of its original factory
in Sadat city. This factory is now capable of producing
over one million cooking sets each year. It is the only
fully automated kitchen sets manufacturing facility for
the international aid community throughout the world.
The new factory has allowed the company to move manufacturing
staff onto other areas such as quality control, stock
control and freight. This in turn ensures that its quality
control procedures are second to none.
Chancel
International also has a number of joint venture agreements
within Egypt. These are for kerosene stoves and blankets.
Chancel International has an office in Syria which oversees
other manufacturing plants with which it has joint venture
agreements for Tent Heaters and Clothing. Chancel International
recently opened an office for sales and marketing in United
Kingdom to work closely with its clients based in Europe
and USA. This facility will hopefully be expanded in this
year.
In
2001, Chancel International moved its headquarters to
Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. The main reason for
this is to ensure that it can offer its clients in the
Emergency Relief sector, a fast and efficient service.
Dubai, as a freeport, is one of the hub ports of the world
with over 150 shipping lines operating out of the port
on a regular basis, plus one of the most sophisticated
air cargo warehouses in the world. Dubai also provides
Chancel International with access to inexpensive charter
flight operations.
Chancel
International has based itself in the freeport in Dubai
where it has its office and warehouse within the Jebel
Ali Free Zone. This gives the company the advantage of
holding stocks, which can be turned round and sent out
with the minimum of time and with maximum efficiency.
Chancel
International moved into a new office, warehouse
and factory complex in 2002. It will then be able to provide
a comprehensive stock of Emergency relief supplies on
a first serve basis comprising of cooking sets, tents,
blankets, kerosene stoves and heaters, hurricane lanterns,
sleeping mats, water carriers and generator sets.
Chancel
also has a joint venture agreement with a local food manufacturer
to provide commodities such as oil, wheat, wheatflour,
sugar and lentils.
